Small numbers of asylum seeks favour visa liberalisation for Kosovo

The drop in the number of Kosovar asylum sekers in the EU member countries favours Kosovo in the process of visa liberalisation, because the reason why France, the Netherlands and Germany have doubts in this process relates to fears for an influx of asylum seekers from Kosovo.

The number of asylum applications by Kosovar nationals in the EU member countries in 2018 fell. According to Eurostat, in the first six months of this year, Kosovo is not among the 30 countries with the highest number of asylum seekers.

During this year, the number of asylum seekers from Kosovo was 2865 and this is a considerable fall compared to the same period of 2017.

MPs and experts of the integration process say that the fall in the number of asylum seekers should be used as an argument that the citizens of Kosovo do not pose a threat for migration in EU member countries.

Minister of European Integration, Dhurata Hoxha has declared that the recent statistics published by Eurostat are very important, because Kosovo doesn’t appear to be among the 30 countries with the highest numbers of asylum seekers. /ibna/
