Albanian president, Ilir Meta was received today in a special audience by His Holiness, Pope Francis in the Vatican.
During this meeting, president Meta expressed his deep gratitude for the extraordinary contribution of the Holy See for the spiritual and social recovery of the Catholic community and Albanian people, in particular after the country came out of a long period of communist isolation. The president of the republic has also underlined Albania’s European orientation and the determination of the Albanian people to pursue the path of European integration.
The meeting also discussed the model that Albania has to offer to the world with the harmonious cohabitation between different communities. Pope Francis and president Meta agreed that the Holy See and Albania should continue their cooperation in order to promote this value all over the world. The pair also discussed topics such as refugees, fight against poverty, preservation of the environment and the importance of a healthy family. /ibna/
