First opinion poll ahead of the referendum in FYROM

The first opinion poll has been published in FYROM ahead of the referendum which will be held to decide on the country’s new name. Asked if they’re in favour of the country’s accession in the EU and NATO by accepting the agreement reached between Skopje and Athens, 41.5% of respondents have said that they will vote in favour, while 35.1% said that they will vote against.

Meanwhile, 12.4% of them answered that they will not vote, 9.2% that they do not know, while 1.9% has refused to answer. The opinion poll has been carried out by MCMS (Macedonian Center for International Cooperation). According to this opinion poll, 66.4% of respondents will participate in the voting process, 19.8% will boycott it, while 1.9% have not yet decided. The ethnic based analysis shows that 88% of Albanian ethnics will vote in favour, with only 2.2% against. The opinion poll has been carried out in the past ten days through the telephone. The number of respondents in this poll was 1026. /ibna/
