Authorities in Skopje have until 2024 to change denomination in identification documents

Authorities in Skopje have until 2024 to include the new denomination “Republic of North Macedonia” in identification documents.

This is foreseen in the laws which have just been voted by Parliament as part of the constitutional amendments and the Prespa agreement.

Besides personal documents, there will also be changes in vehicle registration plates, where the abbreviation NMK or NM will appear, instead of the existing abbreviation MK or MKD. These measures enter into force once the Prespa agreement is ratified by the Greek parliament.

Meanwhile, within a period of five years, authorities should make the necessary modifications in all documents that concern public administration. These changes will also affect state institutions such as “Macedonian Academy of Science and Arts”, which will now be called “Academy of Science and Arts of North Macedonia”. /ibna/
