Albania: High Judicial Council is set up as part of the justice system

Albanian judges have gathered today to elect the members of the High Judicial Council, following the election of the members of the High Prosecutorial Council which took place yesterday.

Both of these institutions, which are very important institutions, are part of the new package of the reform in justice. These two institutions will give way to the creation of the National Bureau of Investigation and Special Prosecution (SPAK).

On her part, Justice minister ,Etilda Gjonaj said that the setting up of these two new institutions are HJC and HPC are critical in moving on with the next phase of the reform in justice.

“I’m confident that you will be able to establish solid grounds for the new justice system”, she told judges.

According to her, despite the difficulties, “today we’re opening a new page of the justice system in Albania in order to turn it into an independent system”.

“I’d like to thank the representatives of the US and EU who are closely following this process”, she also said. /ibna/
